The Rubbish Dump Project

Bogie & Bacall – where it began
The charity rubbish dump project at the Stung Mean Chey on the outskirts of Phnom Penh city was founded about 4 years ago by the owners of Bogie & Bacall Bar -Phnom Penh.
Initially, we hired a taxi and took loaves of bread to the dump, all paid out of our own pocket. Later, 2 more dedicated people joined the program by offering some money and help whenever they could afford it. Gradually others got interested and came to help us, as and when they could.
The project has now becoming part of the registered charity - Cambodian Charity Development Foundation (CCDF) and will remain entirely 100% volunteer, with 100% of the donations being spent directly for the children.
Nothing is spent on transport or other logistics, as these are met by the volunteers with their own money and generously give their time and effort for this project. Now we have a volunteer Para Medic who comes with us on each trip to tend to minor wounds to feet and legs etc. If we discover any child in severe pain, we arrange a trip to a hospital free of any charge, as the costs are met by the volunteers themselves, other western owned bars & businesses and the U.S. Embassy.
“Our policy is 100% transparency, 100% donations spent on children, and 100% volunteers.”
We do not seek publicity through this project, all the businesses donate knowing well, that what they receive in return is going to be a thank you letter, photos and documentation of what their money is contributed for the project.
All our members are 100% volunteers, every cent that is collect for these children, is spent on the children. That is our promise! The volunteers pay for the transport out of their pockets, their time is given very generously for free.
A balance sheet is available at bogies for inspection by anyone at anytime! We are happy to send you this information by e mail with an up date on trips and projects.
We welcome anyone who want to be part of the project and want to donate, to come along with us to the dump. You can buy the food on the way and help to distribute to the children. We feed three children for a $1.00, you can do the same. Please e mail us if there is anything you would like to know or the date and time of the next trip

This is the city dump where the children live. They scavenge 24 hours a day for anything they can get money for. They manage to make about $1.00 a day if they are lucky. There is no medical help, supervision or care. They survive or not, the world does not seem to care

As you can see the children are in desperate need of any help that can be offered. We cannot change their world, but we make their day a little better. We collect money for rubber boots, food and clothes. Many children are without foot wear, they walk around all day and night bare foot on broken bottles, rusty cans and used syringes. Mosquito nets have been kindly donated by the U.S. Embassy; they have also offered help in a medical manner, thank you America! The founders have been coming to this dump for four years, sadly in that time we have seen no improvement in conditions or lesser number of children in desperate need.
